I stumbled across this website randomly after reading a Wikipedia page about Larry. I have heard many stories of Larry and my grandpa James Crume who I believe were dear friends. I believe my grandpas love for music must have been influenced by Larry's talent. My grandfather always played Herb Albert for my mother who in turn played them for me :)

In a sentence; God bless Larry Levine. I think that one of the greatest accolades that could ever be given to Larry comes from Herb Alpert himself when he said that Larry is the greatest partner that anyone could possibly have. I grew up with A&M Records, and I will never leave it behind.

I have wonderful memories of visiting my cousin Lynn and Larry. I was six months shy of my tenth birthday. I can't believe this visit took place in 1970. The kid from Jersey got to swim in a heated pool. Zounds!

I recently saw Lynn at a family reunion. It's a shame I only get to see such a beautiful person every now and again.

My very best to Lynn. Wishing her peace and joy.

I always feel a great loss every time some one of enormous substance passes. Especially since I usually never get to meet them as is the case with Larry, until it's too late. I'm thankful for this dedication site to him allowing me to have access to the people who knew him best. While reading articles here i've discovered the similarities of he and I's approach and thought's to recording music and humility of working with others while constantly worrying about making the best record for the client .
To Lyn Levine and family i'm truly sorry for your loss
Larry was a great person and a great influence to all.
Jeremy

Just wanted to say that Larry looked like a man of wonderful kindness & depth. His look is at once penetrating & deeply involving. Obviously, an exceptional guy. I'm sure he's happy in spirit.
I'm a long-time Pittsburgh broadcaster & a huge fan of Pete Jolly. I played & praised him endlessly when I did a music show on the Armed Forces Network in Europe years ago. Best to all. Hank

Please know that Larry was loved for his art by those of us who were lucky to have played those masterpieces on-air. Larry's work with Phil and the Crew meant the world to me as a young music director and jock. It is music for the ages.

You did a superb job producing my
song "Stillness." It is a tone poem
that resonates with esoteric Zen
calm. When I first heard it on tape,
I was in heaven.
I wanted to give another take on Larry's life, one not as colorful as the Spector/Gold Star years.
I knew Larry in the 80's when we worked together at a post-production house in N. Hollywood called Premore. He had built the recording room there for the owner (the founder of the Solo Cup Company) and it started out mainly as an excuse for this owner to create a kids show.
Anyway, I got to know Larry fairly well, the time spent waiting for some producer or lackey to show up and oversee the session can open up many conversations. We spent a good bit of time together. I was a little older than the average employee there and since I had grown up in Hollywood around the entertainment biz, I was more aware of his background than most.
In retrospect, it seems like every week or so in the 2 years I worked there, some rock star or band would come in to check out the room but in reality, they knew Larry was there; the meeting would invariably be the same each time: no matter how hungover or stoned they were, they would respectfully sit at the feet of the master ... ...

Lynn,
I'm sorry to be entering this so late after Larry's passing. I share in your grief and wish you only better times. Larry was the man who got me started by giving me my first job in the music industry when he hired me at A&M back in 1973. I'll always remember the good times he and I had in the studio all those years. It was an honor to have worked with him.
By way of introduction I am an audio engineer from the Detroit, Michigan area.
I met Larry some 35 years ago when he came to United Sound in Detroit, MI. with
Brazil 66 as I remember. (I was a former Motown Engineer and we traded stories
about his Gold Star sessions and the Motown sessions while we worked at United.) When I worked in LA it was usually at A&M because of he great relationship we developed. I worked on part of the "East Coast" session elements on the "Wings"
project thanks to Larry.

Today I opened MIX magazine to discover that Larry has been "called home."
What a shock and a loss to us all in the industry. Larry was a humble giant in the recording business. We all owe a debt to Larry and I do personally for God to have
given me the honor of knowing him. May he rest in the peace that only God can give.
He will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
Ed Wofrum ...

My sincere condolences for your loss.

Larry and I attended an NCO school at Camp McGill in Japan, the course was intended to make instructors out of junior NCOs. I was very shy and never would have made graduation without Larry's help and guidance, he was a very gifted public speaker. We were not in the same troop but would meet from time to time in the Bn. area he was always a pleasure to talk to. In Korea Larry was the Bn. Communication NCO and I was a Plt Sgt. on the line and again we would get together from time to time. He did a great job and was a fine Soldier.

I was able to get his e-mail address and we exchanged e-mail from time to time. I will inform the 7th Cavalry Association.
Ever since the announcement of Larry's passing and after the funeral ceremony I have constantly had Larry on my mind. I do not have to go into detail regarding what a friend and human being Larry was. He will be dearly missed by all of his golf and bowling friends along with everyone else. Coming up at the end of this month, there is a golf tournament. As you may know, everyone uses white golf balls. Larry has always been different, and uses a yellow ball. Well, starting with this outing and all those in the future, I will supply everyone will a yellow ball to start the tournament off. Everyone will play the first hole with Larry's Ball. Yo and I share your great loss and will always be here if you need us. All our Love Jerry & Yo

Larry was a dear man. In the 60's and 70's Gold Star was my creative home base and Larry was part of it's creative family. He had wonderful ears and through judicious mixing often added something to one of my arrangements that far exceeded what I had written. His mellow personality was a joy to be around. He could calm the waters of many a stormy session.

Even though we didn't see much of each other in recent years it was nice to know that if I was really down I could always head for Fromins deli on Tuesday morning and get my Larry fix.

My condolences to Lyn and family. My days at A&M were some of the best of my career, due in no small part to Larry's being there. I remember him with great fondness.
I wanted to share one story that shows Larry to be not only the wonderful, funny, smart, honest and talented man we all knew, but that he was the essence of goodness.

We were on tour with the TJB. On our way to Europe, there was a 12 hour delay, in Maine I believe. At the end of it, the TJB was allowed to pre-board, but Larry refused to go ahead of women and children who had also spent the entire night waiting.

Larry, you were always there, to contribute your amazing talent for anything our family needed. You will be greatly missed.

Larry, I just heard the news moments ago, words are totally inappropriate to describe the way I feel. If it was not for your faith in me, I would never have enjoyed the life I've had, making some of the greatest music ever recorded. You allowed me to witness one of the greatest periods in popular music history. Everyday day I go to work thanking God, I can do the thing I love. My years at A&M are some of my fondest memories! You took a chance on me, and it turned into a 35 year adventure, that continues today. I will never forget that, and I will never forget your generosity! God Bless! Tommy Vicari
